Our trip to Sheffield Park was a great success. We were very lucky with the weather, the journey both ways went without a hitch.

Christine arranged a short guided tour of the gardens which was very helpful for those unfamiliar with the extensive grounds. The name Sheffield comes from Old English,  and apparently means Forest Clearing. Our guide was very knowledgeable and the short tour was extended as the group were keen to learn. We heard interesting facts about the Park and the amazing variety of trees that are grown there. On arrival the gentleman who handed out the maps was apologetic about the late display of Autumn Colours, he need not have worried they were beautiful. One particular planting by the lake of a deep red acer and white pampas grass was stunning.

Apparently the house is now let out as apartments, what a wonderful place to live.
